About Spray Foam

What all the fuss is about.

Advantages

Why is spray foam insulation superior to conventional batt and blow-in insulation?

Spray foam insulation forms a tight seal around the area it is applied to, preventing air leaks and drafts. This can help to improve the energy efficiency of a building and reduce heating and cooling costs.

Additionally, spray foam insulation can fill in small cracks and crevices that batt insulation may not be able to reach, providing a more complete insulation solution.

Finally, spray foam insulation is a more durable and long-lasting option than batt insulation, which can settle and lose its effectiveness over time.

Comfort

  • Uniform temperature throughout your house
  • Creates an air seal every time
  • Up to six times tighter
  • Save 30-50% on your heating and cooling
  • Performs like a new building for life
  • Does not sag, settle, or shrink

Quiet

  • Open cell significantly reduces airborne sound
  • Open cell is sound absorbent

Green

  • Manufactured on site
  • Extreme energy savings
  • GREEN GUARD® for children & schools (with HEATLOK SOY®)
  • Bio content, highest in industry LEED points

Clean

  • Improved indoor air quality
  • Zero ozone depleting
  • Condensation control
  • Does not support mold growth

Closed cell on round roof

Closed Cell Foam

Closed cell spray foam insulation is made of a dense foam that is filled with small, sealed cells. These cells are completely sealed and filled with a gas, which gives the foam its rigid, hard texture.

Closed cell spray foam insulation has a higher R-value than open cell spray foam (1″ = R7), meaning it is has higher thermal resistance and can fit more into smaller spaces.

It is also more resistant to moisture, mold, and mildew, making it a better choice for damp or humid environments.

Additionally, closed cell insulation can be used as a structural reinforcement, it can add rigidity and strength to a structure.

We recommend closed cell insulation be used where space is limited, and on all shops, garages, or any place else that the foam could be in contact with moisture.

Open Cell Foam

Open cell spray foam insulation is made of a low-density foam that is filled with tiny, open cells. These cells are not completely sealed and are filled with air, which gives the foam its soft, spongy texture.

Open cell spray foam insulation has a lower R-value than closed cell spray foam (1″ = R3.8), meaning it has lower thermal resistance and requires larger cavities to acheive the same insulation value as closed cell.

It is also more permeable to water vapor, which means it may not be suitable for damp or humid environments. We also recommend that a vapor barrier primer be painted on the interior surfaces of the house (drywall) to protect the foam from moisture in the air.

Open cell foam is generally a less expensive option, and is recommended if your project provides enough space to acheive your desired r-values.
